Mapping Skills

We are currently working on Mapping Skills by traveling around the world to learn the names and locations of the seven continents.

We headed around the world to study a globe and lines of longitude and longitude. We took virtual excursions to Greenwich, England to see the Prime Meridian. Students also studied the International Date Line, Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn. We discussed what a Compass Rose is and does; as well as; what is a Legend and Scale on a map.

We will return to Canada to map all the provinces and territories on a map of Canada. We will be working hard to place all the capital cities of each province and territory on a map. Students will be working in small groups with flash cards to try to master each pair of province / territory with its matching capital city.
