Creative Writing:
Recently, your son / daughter was introduced to a Recount.
We discussed all the basic characteristics of a Recount. Students were provided with a Graphic Organizer and a 4 page mini-booklet outlining all the keys to success for a Recount.
Our focus during this week is how to create an effective Topic Sentence. Students had the opportunity to watch a video on how to create Topic sentences.
Class time was provided for students to brainstorm ideas for their topic. We then moved on to helping students with their topic sentences and how to build paragraphs.
A number of students were surprised as to how to build an effective paragraph.
Firstly, the Topic Sentence introduces the topic.
Second sentence.....provides additional details
Third, sentences provide additional detail that must be directly connected to the Topic Sentence.
Fourth sentences is a summary sentences that allows the writer to review the key details of the paragraph.
Students have been assigned to have their topic sentence of their Recount evaluated by me as of Monday, October 1st.
